On the 21st and 22nd of September, Melbourne’s The Timber Yard became a paradise for cake enthusiasts as the Australian Cake Decorating Network (ACDN) hosted its inaugural Festival of Cake. As the founder of ACDN, I couldn’t be more thrilled to reflect on this amazing event that brought together bakers, decorators, families, and food lovers for two unforgettable days.
A Vision Turned Reality
The Festival of Cake was born from a desire to celebrate the artistry, joy, and community that cakes and baking bring to our lives. Walking into The Timber Yard, I was overwhelmed with pride. The venue, with its rustic charm, was buzzing with excitement as people of all ages explored stalls, watched live demonstrations, and admired breathtaking cake designs.
Seeing the smiles, the laughter, and the sense of wonder as guests engaged with the art of cake decorating reminded me why I started this journey.
Highlights of the Event

The event was packed with activities and showcases:
- Live Demonstrations: Guests were treated to real-time cake-decorating sessions. Watching sugar flowers come to life or fondant toppers being carefully crafted was a mesmerising experience.
- Inspiration Everywhere: From tiered masterpieces to intricately piped cupcakes, every corner of the festival was bursting with creativity. Many guests captured ideas for their future projects, ensuring the festival’s influence would last far beyond the weekend.
The Future is Bright
As we close the chapter on our Melbourne debut, plans for 2025 are already underway. Sydney, get ready—the Festival of Cake is coming your way! With lessons learned and inspiration overflowing from this year’s event, we’re committed to making the Sydney edition even bigger and better.
