Our ACDN Member of the Month for August is Anna Russell of Lulabelle Cakes.
Anna has been an ACDN member since the ACDN began and is a valuable contributor to our membership community. We caught up with Anna to learn a little more about her business and cake decorating journey:
When did you start cake decorating?
I have always enjoyed baking from a little girl, and always wanted to make ‘delicious’ cakes. I dabbled with a few family cakes but my first commissioned cake was in 2011 for a friend. I still have a $10 note from that first order!!
When did you start your cake decorating business, and how did you make the change from cake decorating as a hobby to a business?
When I started to get enquiries from people I didn’t know, I knew it was time to officially start my business. I got my home kitchen registered with the council in 2013.
What is the most enjoyable part of running your cake decorating business?
I LOVE seeing it all come together!! But most of all the feedback from my happy clients as to how tasty their sweets were. That is my ultimate goal!!
What is your preferred style of cake to create?
I love to create beautiful cakes!! Sugar flowers, lace, stencilling!! However, I make a lot of kids cakes, and they are fun too!!
Have you taken many cake decorating courses, and if so, which was your favourite and why?
Some techniques you just need to learn hands on!! I have taken a few classes over the years, but my favourite teachers have been Jacqueline Butler from Petal Sweet, Lizzo Merreck from Artisan Cake Company, Ny Nguyen from Decorative Sweets and our very own Julia Day from Miss Biscuit.
